Man Pleads Guilty to Subway Attack and Robbery
Albany County District Attorney Lee C. Kindlon announced today that a 39-year-old Albany man has admitted to threatening workers during a robbery of a local Subway store.
Justin Johnson pleaded guilty in front of the Honorable Christopher Maier to Robbery in the First Degree for an incident that happened on Jan. 11.
Albany Police were called just after 3:30 p.m. to the Subway at 579 New Scotland Ave. for reports of a robbery. Johnson had walked into the store wielding a metal pipe, raised it above his head and threatened two employees while demanding money. He forcibly stole $300 and exited the store.
Police were able to identify Johnson by video surveillance footage and through witness accounts. He was arrested on Jan. 14.
Johnson, who has three previous felony convictions, was remanded to the custody of the Albany County Correctional Facility. He will be sentenced on June 10 to 13 and a half years in state prison followed by five years of post-release supervision.
Assistant District Attorney Joseph Brucato, Bureau Chief of the Major Crimes Unit, is prosecuting the case.
