Albany County District Attorney Lee C. Kindlon announced today that a 43-year-old Albany man who was found to be 3D printing a vast collection of illegal firearms has been formally charged after a year-long investigation by New York State Police and the DA’s office.

Demetrio Daga was arraigned on a 15-count, grand jury indictment in front of the Honorable Andra Ackerman Monday charging him with one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the First Degree, two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, three counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, and nine counts of Criminal Possession of a Firearm.

On Jan. 8, 2025, Daga was pulled over by New York State Police for a traffic violation and a search of his vehicle uncovered a 3D-printed 9mm handgun loaded with eight live rounds. NYSP’s Special Investigations Unit – Gun Trafficking Interdiction Unit (GTIU) executed multiple search warrants in Albany relating to the manufacturing of Personally Manufactured Firearms (PMFs).

Daga was found to be manufacturing ghost guns inside two residences using 3D printers and various gun parts. NYSP found:

• Multiple 3D printers (one of which was actively printing a handgun lower receiver)
• (13) handguns (ghost guns)
• (22) AR-style assault rifles (ghost guns)
• (18) serialized AR-style assault rifles
• (2) pump style shotguns
• Over (200) 3D-printed lower handgun receivers and rifle frames.
• Thousands of rounds of various ammunition
• Numerous high-capacity magazines in various calibers
• Miscellaneous gun parts
• Miscellaneous gun manufacturing devices
• Computers, documents, and other electronic devices associated with the manufacturing of PMF’s
• Body armor

Daga pleaded not guilty Monday and his release status was continued on $350,000 bond with the requirement he wear an electronic ankle monitoring device.

Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney Jessica Blain-Lewis and Assistant District Attorney Bryanne Brucato, Bureau Chief of the Street Crimes Unit, are prosecuting the case.
